Ecuador – The Adventure Begins

Now that I’ve decided to begin my travels, I begin my research in Latin and South America. I find quite a bit of information on South America, specifically Ecuador. I also researched Panama, Belize, Nicaragua and Mexico in this hemisphere.

Secondary destinations I found appealing were Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. But I was always drawn back to Ecuador, which just seemed to have so much to offer. I began making plans to visit Ecuador.

I finally had my trip mapped out and with ticket in hand, off I went (alone) to visit and explore Ecuador.

SIDE NOTE:  I’ve been to quite a few foreign countries in my travels and never had much of a problem communicating with people. I could usually find someone close by who could speak enough English to answer my questions concerning directions, money exchange, restaurants hotels or whatever. I found communicating with Ecuadorians to be a challenge as I did not find too many Ecuadorians that spoke English.

That’s where I got an awakening of sorts. It dawned on me that I knew about 5 words of Spanish and the taxi driver knew about as many words of English. However, between us, we were successful in finding my hotel. Fortunately for this tired traveler, the hotel clerk spoke decent English and I got checked in and was off to bed.
